Method
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- Start by preheating your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using homemade dough, make sure it’s ready. Roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. I love a thicker crust, but you do you!
Step 2: Create the Sauce
- If you’re using canned tomatoes, take those whole tomatoes, drain, and crush them in a bowl. Toss in the oregano and garlic powder. This mix brings a fresh kick to your pizza that store-bought sauce can’t touch.
Step 3: Spread the Sauce
- Once your dough is shaped, transfer it to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Evenly spread the sauce over your dough. Go right up to the edges; we'll be adding toppings soon.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
- Here comes the gooey goodness! Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella generously over the sauce. Feel free to add more if you want that decadent stretch when you take a slice. Next, crumble the feta cheese over the top, ensuring even coverage.
Step 5: Pile on the Toppings
- Now for the fun part! Arrange the Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, and capers on top of the cheesy base. Don’t be shy; layer it as artfully as you like.
Step 6: Bake to Perfection
- Pop your pizza into the preheated oven. Bake it for about 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. I usually stand by the oven for the last few minutes; it’s hard to resist that aroma!
Step 7: Garnish & Serve
- As soon as it’s out of the oven, garnish with red pepper flakes and torn basil. Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes, then slice it up!
Notes
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: Fresh cheese and high-quality olives can take your pizza from good to phenomenal.
- Experiment with Toppings: If you have other veggies in the fridge, toss them on! Spinach, zucchini, or even sun-dried tomatoes work well.
- Don’t Overcrowd: It’s tempting to load the toppings, but too many can leave the pizza soggy.
- Let the Dough Rest: If you're making dough from scratch, allowing it to rest at room temperature makes it easier to roll out.
- Check the Bottom: If you like a crispy crust, use a pizza stone or a preheated baking sheet.
